Our learning groups​

Our learning groups at KEY academy have been carefully designed to support every stage of a child's development, from 18 months to 11 years. Children move through five groups, Bees, Seeds, Roots, Buds and Shoots, each with its own space, routines and learning goals. For almost a decade, we have refined this structure so that every group offers the right balance of challenge and care. Our goal is to provide a warm, nurturing environment where children build strong foundations in literacy and numeracy while developing the confidence, curiosity and 21st-century skills they need for a rapidly changing world.

Each learning group brings together children of different ages, and that is entirely deliberate. Younger children are inspired by those a little further along, while older children grow in confidence as they share what they know, explain their thinking and take on leadership roles. Learning becomes something children do with and for one another, not just alongside each other. Our co-learners (our term for teachers) tailor projects and activities to each child's stage, so everyone is stretched and supported in equal measure.

Small groups and a carefully planned learning environment mean our co-learners truly know every child, and every child feels seen and valued. From their very first days with us to the moment they move on to their next school, our learning groups equip children with the knowledge, confidence and skills to thrive in both local and global contexts.
