Our campus

For centuries architects have understood that our physical environment plays a huge role in shaping how we feel, behave, and develop. As such, we believe that the look and feel of our campus needs to support our teaching methodology and our approach to social impact and sustainability. Walls and doors can create limits in the minds of young children, so our learning spaces at KEY academy are deliberately open plan and typically change based on the needs of the current project or activity, with much of the learning happening outdoors.

In line with our mantra of sustainability, almost all the furniture we use was created locally by recycling materials and using sustainable technologies. It was also important for us to celebrate the beautiful and rich culture of Nigeria, and this was incorporated into all design elements within our various spaces. Outdoor space can be a challenge in Lagos, but this was essential for us given our approach to learning, and the huge benefits of outdoor play. Learning should not be limited to the indoors, and our tree-lined campus creates the perfect environment for our children to spend time exploring nature and the great outdoors.

We also took the decision from inception to make use of renewable energy for all buildings on our campus, partnering with a local Nigerian solar company to install and maintain our power.
