Who we are

For almost a decade, KEY (Keep Educating Yourself) academy has been delivering 21st-century, project-based education to children from 18 months to 11 years old, earning international recognition for its proven and transformative model.

Our local and global network of co-learners (our term for teachers), subject matter experts, mentors and industry leaders brings the real world into every classroom.

Located in the heart of Lagos, Nigeria, we have moved beyond rote memorisation to project-based learning that is real, relevant and meaningful, built on strong foundations in literacy and numeracy. It prepares children not only for the world we live in today, but for the world they will ultimately inherit.

What does it take to make a decision that affects an entire country? 🇳🇬

Our Shoots (ages 9 - 11 years) explored this question through a government simulation as part of their Every Vote Counts project.

Taking on different government roles gave them the opportunity to practise public speaking, critical thinking, negotiation and decision-making. They had to consider different perspectives, weigh the effects of proposed policies and defend their positions.

It was a fun and practical way to explore democracy and develop 21st-century skills along the way!

We often say education should not end at knowledge. It should translate into action.

These KEY parents tell us they see it at home - their children taking ownership, asking deeper questions, making connections between what they learn and the world around them. What can an 18-month-old already be learning? Quite a lot.

At KEY academy, our youngest students are learning through stories, movement, creative experiences, games and plenty of hands-on exploration. Every experience is designed to help them build confidence, communicate, make choices and begin developing independence.

This is what happens when learning becomes hands-on!

Our Buds (ages 7 - 9 years) are not just learning about bitumen. They’re using what they know to create, experiment and solve problems.

Building their own asphalt model gave them the opportunity to apply their understanding, make decisions about materials, test their ideas and see how different components work together.

Learning by doing means giving students the opportunity to use what they know and see where it can take them.
